MLS stands for Multi-Layer Steel - our MLS head gaskets are comprised of three layers of stainless steel. The outer layers are an embossed viton coated stainless steel providing a superior seal with excellent rebound characteristics and are corrosive resistant. MLS head gaskets reduce bore distortion and withstand extreme cylinder pressures.   Cometic Gasket also uses a high pressure steel laminate design known for standing up against the extremely high shearing forces that occur between an aluminum head and iron block. It's internal embossments expand heat to create a better seal when the engine is seeing extremely high combustion pressures and temperatures as is the case with heavy nitrous and turbocharged applications. MLS (Multi Layer Steel) is ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and aluminum heads to aluminum blocks. Withstands the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. Less clamping force is required allowing for reduced cylinder bore distortion. IMPORTANT! You can use a slightly larger gasket bore without effecting the comp ratio. (ex: 86mm bore can use 86.5 or 87mm). As long as the gasket is larger than the bore, it won't effect comp ratio.
